Dead Freaking heat

48-47. Doable.

Vote, volunteer, with the race this close you can really make a difference.

AZ Pres Polling Re-UP

Another one, even better.

OMG! VOTE PEOPLE!

OMG, It’s within range of GOTV.

Call your local AZ Democratic party office: They’re looking for volunteers and there will be lots of other people there. I’m taking off election day and the day before to volunteer, but even an hour phone banking helps. Arizona is in reach!

Free Obama Buttons

Move on is giving away Free Obama buttons:

Free Obama Buttons. Go! For $2 they’ll send you a collection of 3.

Moving on

Move on.org shutters it’s 527. I’m dissapointed because I would love to see Move On attack McCain like crazy this cycle, since it appears Obama isn’t going to. And republicans are going to have a huge constellation of 527’s pointing out that Obama is going to sell us all to terrorists for gay marriges. It would be nice to have an effective counterbalance, and I love move on. They do great stuff and they are extremely active in their advocacy of grassroots liberal goals.

That being said this is yet another sign that Obama has more money than God right now. Still, better safe than sorry.

Doing the peoples work

It’s about nothing.

George is keeping busy in the oval office. The thwarting of the Iran invasion has given him lots of free time apparently.

McCain or Bush?

1 in 100

Ezra Klein:

1 in 100 American adults is in prison, according to a new study by Pew. 1 in 100. And that vastly understates the depth of the problem. Confine your sample to adult men and it’s one out of 54. Confine it to black men and it’s one out of 15.

Thats Life

Killer Mike:

As a work force, you working as a front for who the guys you buying from are working for, but you also are a crop to the government. And when I say a crop, I mean they drive up, they pick you up like you cotton, they give you extended jail terms. Them prosecuting nine cats from the corner helps the prosecutor become an elected official. He talks about being tough on crime when he really is just locking up pawns. So everything about you becomes politicized. I don’t want to be political. It’s just that my very existence as a black man makes me political. If a prosecutor locks me up today, if I’m locked up by the police today and a prosecutor charges me, they’re going to charge me to the fullest extent of the law to make an example of me. The example he makes of me don’t help society; it helps him advance a political career.

Policing the numbers, or enforcement as a political issue is something The Wire talks a lot about, and its worth harping on: As long as it’s in the police best interest to arrest lots of people they’ll do that. If we make it in their best interest to stop the drug trade they’ll do that. Our incentives have to match our goals. We have the highest incarceration ratee in the world and a system thats optimized to lock people up, not solve the underlying problems.

The above is from an interview with Killer Mike.
