Fluffhead

Fluffhead died yesterday.

Kyra took it well, she cried a little and then enjoyed the novelty of walking on the cow dung in the back yard to a place we could bury him. I miss him: he was an entertaining little crab. I remember the night I bought him (to replace another dead crab). When the guy at petsmart picked him fluff head pinched him, then came out of his shell to escape. He finally got him in the box by scooping him up. All the way home I could hear him scraping around the box. When we finally got him home he wouldn’t let go of the box and we had to tear it apart to get him to let go and go into his new home.

Kyra is taking it well, but it’s making me really sad. Everytime we take a long car trip kyra wants us to tell stories about fluffhead, delicate accessory, shelly and pinch me. That’s three of her crabs now that have died and the stories are going to start getting macabre.

Sometimes at quiet time we could hear kyra talking to fluffhead in her room, and sometimes when she’d sit there and watch him he’d scuttle up to the glass and it looked like he was trying to talk to her too.

Kyra read a book today

Today Kyra read me a book. She sounded out the words and read each one. It wasn’t a complicated book, but it still feels monumental. She’s been talking a lot about words, and what letter they start with, and the sounds that in words.

Candy invades our dreams

This morning I asked Kyra if she had any dreams last night. She said: “I was too excited for halloween to think of any”.

IT’S CANDY DAY!

Lego Robots

Yesterday Kim, Kyra, and Zoe went to the lego store. They bought me presents: A spaceship and a robot. So when I got home from work we (kyra mostly, me and kim helping, zoe picking up the pieces and putting them back in the box everytime we dumped them out) built the robot and then Kyra and Zoe played with it.

They called him Wally because he did look very much like Wall-E. And Kyra had some interesting dialog: Wall-E cleaned up the earth, the doll made it messy, then they both left for space. Zoe was content to have the lego man climb the stairs to Kyras bunk bed over and over.

The takeaway: Both my girls were playing legos last night. And using those lego’s to build space going robots. I am going to be the biggest sucker you’ve ever seen once they get me to the lego store.

I like my new bunny suit

Kyra loves the Juno soundtrack. She knows a few of the songs well enough to sing them out loud and she does sometimes when she’s doing something (much like her father she sings to herself a lot).

It’s very cute to hear your three year old daughter sing:

I was quiet as a mouse,
when I snuck into your house,

The next line not so much. Looks like we’re switching back to the kids cd’s for a while.

Merry Christmas!

Sure I'm going to hell…

But at least I’ll have lots of amusing stories to entertain myself with: From IM:

Kim: forgot to tell you something very funny
while putting out xmas decorations
specifically the nativity scene
Kyra wanted to know who all the people were
when she started to set it up, she grabbed the horse and put it’s mouth near baby jesus (do you see where this is going?)
and said “The horse is eating baby jesus.”

Energy efficient

Last night Kyra went to the bathroom before bed and when she came out we had the following conversation:

Kyra: I closed the lid to conserve energy.
Josh/Kim: The toilet lid?
Kyra: Yeah.
Josh/Kim: Really? How does that conserve energy?
Kyra: Because if you leave it open the energy can come out out the hole and whoosh all over your house. If the lids closed it can’t get out.
Josh/Kim: Good work! (shuddering trying to suppress laughter)

I’m glad she’s picked up that saving energy is a good thing, but I’m a little concerned that she has the toilet figured out all wrong.

Random Kyra

At night, after she’s in bed before she’s asleep, Kyra will often call us back into her room because she “has to tell us something”. Here are the two things she felt deserved a summons last night:

“Remember how we talked about animals with sharp teeth? You know what else has sharp teeth? A Walrus”

“When did we get this bed?” IE: The bed she was lying in.

She makes me laugh.
